The Prize

The top performing submission that uses only open-source code and open data will receive additional resource funding and be presented live during the New York City Climate Week from 22-29 September to an international audience of top scientists and techies. Please refer to https://madewithclay.org/challenge for more information on the top prize.

Prize eligibility

Individuals or teams are eligible for the prize, regardless of where they are based.

Both open-source and commercial models can participate in the challenge. However, only models that exclusively use open data and open code for training will be eligible for the prize. If your model uses any commercial or proprietary datasets, we will still rank your score, but you won’t be eligible for the compute prize.

Prize eligible: The model must be fully open-source and trained only on fully open data. Any model that meets these requirements can be used. You must release the code and model weights under an open license such as OpenRAIL, CC BY, Apache, MIT, etc. so that people may modify, use, or make derivatives without restriction. The training can only use fully open data (including commercial use). In the case of task #5, you are allowed to fine tune your model with data that is open but unavailable for commercial use. You must confirm that the sources you used for foundation model training are completely open. We retain the right to run due diligence on your training sources.

Ranking eligible: If your model uses any commercial or proprietary datasets, or if the code or weights are not under open license, we will still rank your score, but you won’t be eligible for the compute prize. You don’t need to specify sources, but we encourage it, especially if you use Clay as a base model.

Only the teams that submit their solution in time and complete all 7 tasks will be considered for the prizes. Please check the Rules section of this webpage for more info on how to create and submit a viable solution. If the solution turns out to be not reproducible, or if any concerns about its validity arise, the organizers reserve the right to contact the team leader of the corresponding team to resolve such issues. If the issues cannot be resolved, the team will not be eligible to receive the prize (see the Challenge evaluation section on the Rules webpage of this website).

Every team receiving a prize must nominate a “point of contact” from their team who will be given access to the AWS credits. The point of contact and the teams respectively are responsible for fair and equal distribution of the prize money between all team members or choosing the further use of the money.

Announcements of the winners

The winning team/individual will be announced and their submission will be showcased during New York City Climate Week, September 22-29.

Ownership of your solution

Any of your IPR contained in the solution you will develop for this challenge will remain yours. Prize eligible models, model weights, and submission code must be under an open license. Submissions that are not open license can still participate in the Challenge, but they will not be eligible for the prize.
