AutoICE
Challenge closed
Rules
For your submitted solution to the challenge to be eligible, the following rules need to be adhered to.
Timing and duration
The AutoICE challenge will take place online from November 21, 2022 to April 17, 2023.
Participants
Participants from all over the world can participate in the challenge (however, see the Prizes section to verify whether you are eligible to receive a prize). You must be over 18, or of legal age in your jurisdiction, in order to participate.
Teams
Each participating Team is required to appoint a team leader. This team leader will be the main contact point between the Organizers and the Team.
Creating and submitting a solution
For the challenge, you will have access to the training datasets and a range of tools in the form of a Jupyter notebook (Starter Pack). No other datasets can be used for the development of your solution. However, pre-trained models are allowed.
Each participant will be allowed to upload their solutions every 12 hours (to avoid overload). The final submission of your solution must be made by April 17, 2023 (16:00 CEST), and each valid submission should consist of the predictions of the three sea ice parameters over all 20 test examples. The submission must be stored in a netcdf file with a xarray.dataset containing xarray.dataarrays titled '{scenename}{chart}', where ‘chart’ is either called ‘SIC’, ‘SOD’ or ‘FLOE’. I.e. there will be 3 charts per scene (see how in Jupyter notebook 'test_upload.ipynb' in the Starter Pack). We ask that the model output is in 80 m pixel spacing (raw dataset pixel spacing is 40 m) and that you follow the ice class numberings summarized in Table 2-4 - at least you will be evaluated in this way. For more information about the sea ice parameters targeted in this challenge and the training and test datasets see the Data and Starter Pack page.
Challenge evaluation
The evaluation of the solutions submitted will be performed as a quantitative analysis. The evaluation of the quality of your solution will be performed live throughout the challenge. The final score will be visible on the leaderboard on this platform. For more details on the evaluation metrics, see the Metrics section on the Data page.
However, if any concerns about the solution's validity arise, the organizers reserve the right to contact the team leader of the corresponding team to resolve such issues. If the issues cannot be resolved, the team will not be eligible to receive prizes.
