Rules

For your submitted solution to the challenge to be eligible, the following rules need to be adhered to.

An open challenge with a competitive twist

The PANGAEA Challenge is run as a permanently open challenge. This means:

  • No fixed end date
  • Continuous submission and evaluation of your models
  • A live leaderboard to track performance and compare approaches
  • Full access to the dataset via EOTDL’s cloud workspace or Python/CLI tools
  • Optional model sharing for transparency and reproducibility

Use the challenge as your personal benchmarking sandbox, or aim for top leaderboard positions—it’s up to you.

So wait, what's the rules?

Well, for the open part of the challenge, there are no real rules. This will of course change with the upcoming Data Sprints — the first one will be announced very soon, so keep an eye out. These sprints are shorter, more focused versions of the AI4EO Challenges, each with its own objectives, prizes, and, of course, rules.

In the meantime, explore the open PANGAEA challenge to get familiar with the data, and start preparing for the Data Sprints!

AI4EO is carried out under a programme of, and funded by the European Space Agency (ESA).
