Your innovation will be rewarded: A total of €6,000 in prize money will be awarded to the top three entries of the #AIforEarthquakeResponse Challenge, distributed as follows:

  • 1st Prize: €3,000
  • 2nd Prize: €2,000
  • 3rd Prize: €1,000

In addition, each winning team is eligible for up to €500 in travel cost reimbursement to attend the 54th Charter Meeting in Strasbourg, taking place from 06-10 October 2025. This allowance may be used to cover flight and hotel expenses and is granted per team, not per individual team member.

Beyond the monetary rewards, this Challenge is an opportunity to gain recognition and visibility for your team’s work. Showcase your analytical thinking, creative problem-solving, collaborative spirit, and technical expertise to key players in the global space and disaster response community.

Prize eligibility

Only teams that submit their solution on time and in full will be eligible for prize consideration. For detailed information on how to prepare and submit a valid solution, please refer to the Rules and Data section of this website.

As stated previously, if a submitted solution is found to be non-reproducible or if there are concerns regarding its validity, the organisers reserve the right to contact the team leader to address these issues. If they cannot be satisfactorily resolved, the team may be disqualified and will forfeit eligibility for any prizes (see the Rules tab for full details).

Each team must designate a team leader, who will act as the main point of contact with the organisers and will be the recipient of any prize money. It is the responsibility of the team leader—and the team collectively – to ensure a fair and transparent distribution of the prize money among all team members, or to agree on its further use. Please note that the ESA Φ-lab will not mediate or intervene in any internal team disputes concerning the use or distribution of prize money.

Prize money may be subject to tax obligations depending on your local jurisdiction. ESA and the ESA Φ-lab cannot provide legal or tax advice and bear no responsibility for participants’ compliance with any applicable tax laws.

The winners will be officially announced during the during the 54th Charter Meeting in Strasbourg on the 06-10 October 2025. The three winning teams will be contacted at least two weeks ahead of the Charter Meeting, in order to plan possible travel to the meeting.
